We had a Great Week at the NOC Sheep Center Feb 25th through the 28th. The crew headed off to the "Cadillac" of shows in Houston, TX this past week. At the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Open Sheep Show we carted off the Champion Dorset Ewe and Ram and Champion Hampshire Ram honors. We also were named the first place pair of rams, ewes and Best Two head in both the Dorset and Hampshire breeds as well as the Champion Hampshire Flock.

Congrats to all the students in the Sheep Production and Management class for the effort getting the NOC flock fitted and shown at the HLSR.

Our 2024 FWSSR is a wrap. 15 students in the NOC Sheep Production and Management class made the trip to the event with 13 NOC Dorsets and Hampshires.

We had the outstanding flocks in both breeds. The Dorsets had a very good day. The Champion Dorset Ram and Ewe and Reserve Champion Ram were part of our exhibit. Thanks to the Texas hosts for the compliments on our exhibit and the kind words about the NOC Sheep Center.

At the 2022 Tulsa State Fair this year the Fall Sheep Production and Management class exhibited 21 head of sheep raised by the NOC Sheep Center.  They showed in the Dorset, Dorset Advantage, Hampshire, Shropshire and Suffolk show.  The day resulted in two Champions, four Reserve Champions and Premier Exhibitors of the Dorset, Dorset Advantage, Hampshire and Suffolk breeds.

The NOC Sheep Production Class went to the 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo recently. The group of students prepped and exhibited the NOC sheep center show string while attending the Open Sheep Show.  While there they won Champion Dorset Ewe and Ram, Reserve Champion Dorset Ewe and Reserve Champion Suffolk Ewe.

Congrats to the Brassfield Family

On January 29th 3 of the 9 in the NOC Sheep Production and Management class traveled to Ft. Worth, TX to participate in the Open Sheep Show at the Ft Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR).  Brandi Whittle, Parker Gottschalk and Stetson LeForce were the students making the trip to exhibit 13 Dorset, Hampshire and Suffolk sheep in the show.
The crew exhibited the four Reserve Champions there: Reserve Champion Dorset Ewe and Ram, Reserve Champion Hampshire Ewe and Reserve Champion Suffolk Ewe.  (see attached pics)  The next event for the class is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the end of February.

We recently went to the Black and White Sheep Show and Sale.  While there we consigned the Champion Dorset Wether, NOC 210051.  He was sired by “Here Comes the Boom”.  He sold in the sale to Indiana for $3200.  Here is his pic with Makayla Donaldson and Sydni Case (holding the sheep) at the event.

Here are our winners from the National Breeding Sheep Show put on by the Chisholm Trail Jr. Dorper Association in Taylor, Texas.  The NOC Sheep Production and Management class students fitted and exhibited 12 head of the NOC Sheep Show Flock while attending.  NOC had the Champion Dorset Ram and Res Champion Dorset and Dorset Advantage Ewes and the Res. Champion Hampshire Ram and also was named the Premier Exhibitor of Dorsets.  Students attending the event were Becca Deming, Fairview, ID; Greyson Garrett, Geary, OK; KayAnn Eck, Thomas, OK; Lexi Vickery, St. Louis, MO; Grace Tucker, North Lake, CA; Hailey Stone, Newkirk, OK.  Students also participated in the Judging Contest and Becca Deming was High Individual with Grace Tucker earning the 2nd place spot in the contest.

This was an inaugural event to replace the loss of the FWSSR Open and Jr. Sheep Shows.  A HUGE thanks to the Chisholm Trail Dorper Association volunteers for their efforts with this show. Over 500 entries participated in the show with thousands of dollars in sponsorships.

The NOC Sheep Center Show Flock exhibited sheep at NAILE Open Sheep Show in Louisville, KY in November. 

NOC was awarded the National Champion and Res. Champion Dorset Wether Sire and had another class winner with the a Spring Dorset Wether Dam.  The two Dorset Yearling Wether Dam ewes also placed 2nd and 3rd in their class.

The Hampshires had two top five placings with the Late January Ewe Lamb placing second in class and the Early February Ewe Lamb placing fifth in class.

About one week prior to the historical shut down of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo due to COVID-19 the NOC Sheep Production and Management Class attended the HLSR Open Sheep Show. The students exhibited 15 head of Dorset, Hampshire and Suffolk sheep at this year’s show. The group ended up with 4 class winners, including the Champion Dorset Ewe. The Northern Oklahoma College Sheep Production and Management class attended the Ft Worth Stock Show and Rodeo in early February to exhibit the NOC Sheep Center Flock in the FWSSR Open Sheep Show.  The students had a very successful day at the FWSSR as they exhibited the Reserve Champion Hampshire Ewe, NOC 9066, the Champion Dorset Ewe, NOC 9008 and the Champion Hampshire Ram, NOC 9129.  NOC 9129 was also named the Reserve Supreme Champion Ram of the show.

The NOC Sheep Production and Management class attended the North American International Livestock Exposition November 13th through the 18th.  The group exhibited 14 head of Dorset and Hampshire sheep for the NOC Sheep Center.  On the “green chips” at Louisville NOC 9008 was the class winning Winter/Spring Dorset Wether Dam and went on to be named the Champion Dorset Wether Dam.

NAILE is the “Super Bowl” of sheep shows in the USA.  Congrats to the group on their National Champion Ewe.

The NOC Sheep Center Flock and Sheep Production class students attended the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Open sheep show in March.  The students exhibited 15 head of sheep at Houston. NOC had a very successful show in terms of banners bringing home 4 champions and 2 reserve champions.  NOC exhibited the Champion Dorset Ram and Ewe, Champion and Reserve Champion Hampshire Ewes and the Champion Suffolk Ewe and Reserve Champion Suffolk Ram.  Students involved in the preparation and exhibition of the animals were Kam Childers, Ewing, VA; Breyden Codding, Guthrie, OK; Cody Fishgrab, Marlow, OK; Amber Layne, Modesto, CA; Kyle Morris, Tonkawa, OK; Sydney Miller, Bayside, CA; Josie Ferguson, Fairfax, OK and Tanner Shipley, Huntington, IN.

NOC had a very nice show at the Tulsa State Fair.  NOC Sheep Center was named the Premier Exhibitor in the Dorset, Hampshire and Suffolk Breeds during the show.  NOC exhibited the Champion Dorset, Suffolk and Hampshire Rams and the Champion Suffolk Ewe.  We took 21 head and placed all but four in the top three of their respective classes.  The sheep shown at the Tulsa State Fair were fitted and shown by the NOC Sheep Production and Management class.  Participants are Ginny Brown of Harrah, OK and Robert Testerman of Owasso, OK.  The special assistant at the show was Otto Cardwell of Lamont, OK.

Also two NOC sired females won banners in the Junior show.  Two ewes shown by Abby Cardwell won honors in the Dorset Regional Show.  Cardwell 7025 February Dorset ewe was named the Junior Champion and Champion Dorset ewe, while NOC 6109 was named the Senior Champion Dorset Ewe.  In the Tulsa State Fair Jr. Show NOC 6109 went on to be named Reserve Champion Dorset Ewe.  Both of these ewes were out of “Hines”  Heisdorffer 102.

This past weekend the NOC Sheep Production and Management class attended the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Open Sheep Show.  The students fitted and exhibited 17 head of Dorsets, Hampshires and Suffolks at the show.  NOC 6010 was named the Reserve Champion Dorset Ewe of the show judged by Warren Cuud of Texas. 6010 is a daughter of "Hines" Heisdorffer 102 and NOC 4002.  She is the twin to NOC 6009 who was Reserve Champion Dorset Wether Dam at NAILE this past Fall.  Her dam NOC 4002 was also the Champion Dorset and Supreme Ewe at the 2015 FWSSR.

Their next open show to attend will be the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo in February.

2017 Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Open Sheep Show

The NOC Sheep Center took honors at the North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville, KY last month exhibiting their Hampshire and Dorset show flocks.

In the Hampshire show NOC 5094 "Rose" was named the Reserve Senior Champion Slick Shorn Hampshire Ewe.  Rose was also Res Champion ewe at both the 2015 TSF Open Show and the 2016 FWSSR. In the Dorset Show NOC exhibited the Reserve Champion Dorset Wether Sire, NOC 6034 "Special Reserve", and the Reserve Champion Dorset Wether Dam, NOC 6009.  NOC also went on to receive the honor of the 2016 Premier Dorset Flock Exhibitor for the National Dorset show. Congrats to the students in the NOC Sheep Production and Management class on their efforts, Kacy Kincaid, Kaylin Gemmill, Kyle Lane and Justen Winburn.
